Social Programme (and ESEE events)

On Tuesday June 30, we will have the Opening Ceremony that starts at 16:30 on the campus Tweekerken (aud. Quetelet) including a keynote presentation of Lucas Chancel. After the Opening Ceremony participants are invited to stay at the venue for a Welcome Reception at the premises. We will have some typically Belgian food and drinks.

Wednesday evening July 1 will host three events:

  • The General Assembly of the European Society of Ecological Economics: everyone is invited to join the Assembly in aud. Devreker from 17:30 until 18:30.
  • A screening of The Cost of Growth hosted by the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and followed by a short Q&A in aud. Picard (screening starts at 17:15). Register HERE for the screening.
  • A Pension Plan Game hosted by scholars of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in aud. Vlerick (start at 17:30). Want to experience how money drives your behaviour and that of others? Curious what a sustainable money system could look like? On offer is a behavioral game that explores how individuals balance personal financial decisions with societal sustainability goals under varying policy scenarios. On Thursday afternoon the scholars will organise a Closed Special Session (CSS 6) around this game and other innovative research tools. Register HERE for the game.

On Thursday evening July 2, we organize a Conference Dinner in the Concert Hall of nearby VierNulVier (historically known as Vooruit) starting at 18:30. VierNulVier is a significant arts center in Ghent, housed in a monumental building from the early 20th century. It originated as the festival and art center of the Ghent-based labor movement, built by socialists to empower the working class and advance cooperative ideals. We are preparing a walking dinner setting with room for a little after-party at the venue – it is a Concert Hall after all.

Friday afternoon July 3 brings ESEE2026 to an end with a Closing Ceremony in aud. Quetelet that features Olivier De Schutter as a keynote speaker. Here we will look back on the conference and some of the main messages we as organizers take away from it, and look forward with the ESEE Board to future events including ESEE2028. The winners of the Best Student Paper competition will be announced during the Ceremony.
