16th Conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics
Looking for (the) Just Judges – Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Well-Being in Turbulent Times
30 June – 3 July 2026, Ghent (Belgium)
This is the website of the 16th biennial conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE2026). The conference was held in Ghent, Belgium from June 30th to July 3rd 2026. Over 500 ecological economists met at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Ghent University to present (ongoing) research, exchange ideas and get inspired by keynotes from Lucas Chancel (Sciences Po Paris), Naomi Oreskes (Harvard), Christina Eckes (University of Amsterdam) and Olivier De Schutter (UCLouvain).
The full programme for ESEE2026 was finalised one month in advance of the conference! Find all information on the scientific programme here. Full details on presenters and papers are only available via ConfTool.
The Local Organizing Committee and both co-chairs (Brent Bleys and Bart Defloor) were very happy with everyone’s engagement to the conference. They would like to thank all partners involved – the on-site event manager Viktor De Mulder and the event team of the hosting Faculty, the group of 30 volunteers (students, PhD students and post-docs) who have assisted the practical organisation of the conference, the administrative support from the Faculty and Department, Semico, our caterers – DC Catering and Lot Catering, the people at VierNulVier, the ESEE2026 scientific committee, the ESEE Board, the keynote speakers, and finally all participants for turning the conference into the success we have all so very much enjoyed! Thanks so, so much!
