These keynote speakers are not necessarily ecological economists, but we consider them as <strong>&#8220;friends&#8221; to the field<\/strong>. In addition to his academic role at Sciences Po, he serves as a Co-director of the World Inequality Lab at the Paris School of Economics. His research and teaching focus primarily on the study of economic inequality, its intersection with unsustainable development patterns, and the design of effective environmental policies. A distinguished American historian of science, she is widely recognized for her expertise in the history of climate science and the sociology of scientific knowledge. Her seminal work, Merchants of Doubt (2010), coauthored with Erik M. Conway, exposed the organized efforts to undermine scientific consensus on issues from tobacco to global warming. Professor Oreskes is a leading voice in global discussions concerning scientific integrity, public understanding of science, and the challenges of climate change. In 2025, she was awarded the Volvo Environment Prize for her contributions in \u201cshaping our understanding of how scientific knowledge is collectively constructed and addressing the challenges of misinformation in public discourse&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"911\" height=\"910\" src=\"https:\/\/esee2026ghent.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Eckes2.jpg\" alt=\"eckes2\" class=\"wp-image-676\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.0778947859994863;width:240px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/esee2026ghent.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Eckes2.jpg 911w, https:\/\/esee2026ghent.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Eckes2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/esee2026ghent.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Eckes2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/esee2026ghent.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Eckes2-768x767.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 911px) 100vw, 911px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Christina Eckes<\/strong> is a professor of European law at the University of Amsterdam and serves as the director of the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance (ACELG). Her academic research focuses primarily on European constitutionalism, the external relations of the European Union, and the intersection of law with climate mitigation norms. Since her appointment as professor in 2016, she has become a leading voice in the study of EU legal frameworks and their impact on democratic governance. Through her leadership at ACELG, she contributes extensively to international academic debates regarding the constitutional challenges facing the European Union today. He is widely recognized for his expertise on social and economic rights and on economic globalization and human rights. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in numerous high-level international roles, including&nbsp;as Secretary General of the International Federation for Human Rights (2004\u20132008),&nbsp;as the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food&nbsp;(2008\u20132014),&nbsp;and as a member of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (2014-2020).
